Week 15

We get the bus over night heading deeper into the Andes,‭ ‬the bus journey was awful the road was winding with steep drops at the sides and no tarmac.‭ ‬We tried to sleep but it was hard.‭ ‬At around‭ ‬4‭ ‬in the morning Carol noticed we were passing through Samaipata,‭ ‬a bit dazed we went to stop them bus.‭ ‬Too late‭! ‬We ended up in the next Hamlet‭ ‬10km from Samaipata,‭ ‬not really knowing what to do we waited at the side of the road hoping for a lift.‭ ‬Within an hour a taxi came and we piled in‭ (‬including Pete and Jen who are still with us‭)‬.‭ ‬Along with the woman and child in the front we are joined by another gentleman and finally‭ ‬a school girl who climbs in the boot,‭ ‬we make our way to Samaipata.
Finally in the town of our choice we head to Hostel/Camp ground of our choice.‭ ‬Over the next day we plan the next week and relax a little‭!

Our morning view after the bus ride from hell!

The following day we Walk‭ ‬10km to some Inca ruins on a hill nearby,‭ ‬it was gruelling as the day was hot.‭ ‬The ruins weren’t that impressive as we had to look at the from ill positioned platforms.‭ ‬The day after we head to a Zoo/reserve,‭ ‬where we got to see rescued wild cats,‭ ‬Macaws,‭ ‬various types of Monkeys,‭ ‬Turtles,‭ ‬Eagles,‭ ‬all sorts of animals‭! ‬Oh and Carols favourite dogs‭! ‬After playing with one of the Monkeys‭ (‬called Simon‭) ‬it decided to bite me three times‭!‬ In the afternoon we went to some waterfalls to relax and swim.‭ ‬That evening we had a BBQ with friends‭  ‬from travelling that had joined us at the hostel.

Inca Ruins

 This Monkey was nice!

The next day we hit the road once more this time for La Higuera,‭ ‬the place of Che Guevara’s capture and execution.‭ ‬After a bus in which a child‭  ‬was sick on me,‭ ‬and another taxi of far to many people we get to La Higuera in the evening.‭ ‬We find accommodation in the School where Che was shot dead.‭  ‬That evening we ate in a locals house and slept in the room next to the place of execution.‭ ‬The next day we look around the hamlet,‭ ‬with its many statues and memorials to Che and its Museum‭  ‬before catching a lift in a local food waggon back to Vallegrande.‭ ‬The following day we went to the Hospital‭ ‬where they displayed his body for the world to see,‭ ‬his grave before his remains were flown to Cuba and another Museum.‭ ‬The town itself had a beautiful square which we had time to relax in.

where we slept right, execution room left!

That evening we took a‭ ‬12‭ ‬hour bus to Cochabamba,‭ ‬on arrival and seeing the city we got a bus straight to Le Paz the capital of Bolivia.‭ ‬After nearly‭ ‬24‭ ‬hours of travelling we check into a hostel were we pump into the friends that where in Samaipata.‭ ‬We crash out looking forward to the next few days ahead in Le Paz before we head to Lake Titicaca.
